Our visit to St Paul's Church
Reception visited St Paul’s church this morning as part of
our learning on ‘Celebrations’. For many it was there first experience of being
inside a church and the children demonstrated impeccable behaviour listening to
Martin as he delivered the service. Martin spoke about why people go to church;
Amaliah said ‘to pray’, Eduard said ‘to hear the choir’ and Amber commented that
we are ‘celebrating the story of baby Jesus
being born at this time of year’. The
children sang songs and recalled the nativity story. Before heading home, the
children got to enjoy and take part in their own Christingle service. We learnt
about what each part of the Christingle candle represents:
·
the orange symbolises the world
·
the ribbon is a symbol of the blood of Christ
·
the four sticks represent the four seasons and
the sweets represent Gods’ good gifts throughout the year
·
the candle symbolises Jesus the light of the
world.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time this morning and experiencing
being in a church, ‘Thank you for taking
me to church’ said Amber. We would like to extend our thanks to Martin and
Steve for allowing the children to participate and have the opportunity for
this experience.
The children in Reception did a fantastic job representing
Mead school, being polite and courtesy to members of the public. They also ensured they stayed safe by adhering to the road safety rules, one child was
overheard saying ‘we need to look both
ways’.
