Kenya had a brilliant time at Forest School. The children were making some pumpkin mud pies and looking at the insects and worms they found when digging. We spoke about why worms live underground and how they like the dark, warm, moist microhabitat of the soil.
We loved playing in the shelter and watching an adult use a Kelly Kettle to make hot chocolate which we thoroughly enjoyed. We discussed the fire triangle and the three things that a fire needs to spread and survive. Next time, we will forage for the firewood ourselves.
Year 2 have had a brilliant start to their Forest School journey this term and seem to be really enjoying their sessions 🌿
The children have loved thinking about Halloween this week.
We read the story, 'We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt' and made pumpkins out of play dough.
We decorated biscuits to look like pumpkin faces.
We loved opening a pumpkin up to see what is inside.
We scooped out spiders!
The theme for Black History Month this year was "Saluting Our Sisters". In Year 4, the children looked at the work of Althea McNish who was amongst the first, if not the first, designer of African-Caribbean descent to achieve international recognition. Her designs injected much-needed colour and life into the post-war fashion and textiles industry from the 1950s onwards.
Her dazzling contrasting colours, full of movement and expressive lines featured natural imagery drawn from the tropical flora and fauna from her native Trinidad. Her designs also took the form of lively abstract patterns, bursting with energy and visual complexity. The children were inspired by her work and created their own designs.
This week the children in reception learnt a poem called 'Breezy weather' as part of their poetry basket sessions. Please enjoy our version.
