Year 3 create an explosion!

This term year 3 are learning about volcanoes. To begin their topic they made their own volcano thinking carefully about the shape of their volcano and colours they would paint their volcano. Pupils showed reciprocity whilst working in a group to design and make their volcanoes.

Once their volcanoes were completed the pupils created an explosion by using baking soda, vinegar and red food colouring.

“The acid and alkali mixed together creates the explosion.” Shay told the class.

“It was amazing to see the pretend lava run down the mountain.” Brea said.

“I can’t wait to learn more about why volcanoes erupt!” Daniella said.

“It was so exciting watching our volcanoes explode!” Macie.

Throughout the rest of the term pupils will be learning more about volcanoes.
The pupil's learning challenge this term is also linked to volcanoes they can use the skills they have learnt during this activity to help create their own volcano at home!
