Forest School Updates!

The children have been very busy in Forest School since returning from half term. Read our weekly blogs below!

Week 5 Halloween Fun at Forest School!
This week the children got into the Halloween spirit with a 'Ghost and Ghouly' game of hide and seek to start off their Forest School session. Lots of 'ooooohh' and 'aaaahhhh' sounds could be heard coming out of the Forest area...

Everyone got busy making spider’s webs, conker spiders and climbing through a giant spider’s web. Fantastic concentration as the children found sticks just the right size for a spider’s leg and used palm drills to make holes in the conkers.

They finished off with a Halloween hunt around the woods - witches fingers, broomsticks, vampire stakes were among the items discovered. A spooky time was had by all!

Week 6: Survival Challenge!
It’s survival challenge week and once again there was a variety of fantastic ideas.

The children were in 4 groups but 2 chose to join up making one larger group, it was interesting to see them face the challenges of having a larger team. Each group made a shelter, built a fire, found some food and one even made a shower.

The rain added an element of importance to getting a shelter up! Some also made a sleeping area, others focused on camouflage and a play area. Lots of creativity and development of communication skills were present this week. Good job Year 3!

Week 7: Independent work!
Year 3 were really keen to guide their own learning this week. After a couple of slightly more structured sessions they wanted the freedom to choose. We had chilling in the hammock and reading, bird watching, digging, mud kitchen creativity, den improvement, making bows and arrows and a fair few tried their hand at fire lighting!
