Year 3 -The Dragon Song

Year 3 children are currently working on a song called ’The Dragon song.’ The song is about Lesley-the dragon who flew around the world looking for some friends. The song introduces traditional tunes and folk melodies from around the world that Lesley might have listened to during her travels.

So far, we have listened to music from India and Turkey, sang 2 verses of the song, played an instrumental part using glockenspiels and improvised using 3 notes.

Year 1 are Digital Artists!

This half term, Year 1 have been using iPads to create digital art. This week, children made their own digital sketch line art based on Picasso's Dove of Peace. The finished pieces were brilliant and showed great attention to detail.

Palau and New Zealand visit the library!

Today New Zealand and Palau classes visited Harold Hill library. We got the chance to take a tour of the children's library, and listen to a story. Children then chose a book, which they have brought back to school to enjoy. Everybody set a great example for Mead, and had a fantastic time!

Antigua Forest School

It was a lovely crisp winter’s day at forest school last week for Antigua class. We walked to discover two huge frozen puddles which caused lots of excitement and we enjoyed breaking off large shards of ice to carry back to forest school.

We used Y shaped sticks again to build teepees this time covering them with evergreen branches and many children enjoyed the challenge of the balance rope to walk along. 

 

There was some great teamwork and turn taking throughout the afternoon as well as lots of perseverance. Great skills to be applying in such an enjoyable session.

Building Bird Hides in the Forest

 

Nurture Forest School group constructed their own bird hides ready for our Big Birdwatch. 

They developed skills in spatial awareness, construction, balance and safety. We were all  purposeful, calm and engaged. We listened to bird calls and spotted plenty of birds active in our woodland.  Bluetits, magpies, crows, blackbirds, guls, and our regular robins were all here today.
