THE GIANT SANDPIT IS OPEN!!!

"It was fun!"
"The slide was amazing!"
"In the tunnel it felt like it was moving."

These were just some of the comments heard in the sandpit today.

The children in KS1 were very excited to explore our amazing giant sandpit.  They made super sandcastles, crawled through the dark tunnel, jumped from the high platform and slid down the slippery slide.  It was brilliant!

A Viking visitor for year five.

Today has been a very exciting day for year five as they have had a Viking visitor. Thorgil the friendly Viking came into school today to tell year five about what it was like to be a Viking. The children became judges as they decided the fate of a family of a thief who stole bread to feed his family. They decided in the end that they would all be sold into slavery (this was one of the nicer options!). They all packed up their rooms (storage boxes) and then set sail to Danelagh (Britain) rowing most of the way as the winds were not on their side.

Thorgil needed a new thrall (slave) and he decided that Amelia in Mexico class would fit the bill. He tested her on her sewing skills and then he haggled with Mr Frith to buy her. In the end she cost two shells and two goats. Thorgil was so convincing as a Viking that Amelia had to confirm at the end that she had not really been sold as his slave. A great time was had by all.

Year 3 Spellings

Welcome back to a new school year.

This year English lessons will be taught differently to allow all students to be challenged at their individual levels. We will be teaching Literacy and Language, however some students will be continuing with Read, Write, Ink.

Spelling will be sent out on a Friday for students to learn over the course of the week, with spelling tests to take place on the following Friday. Please ensure that your child has their spelling book in school on the Thursday to allow for the new spelling list to be glued in for Friday.

Thank you for your support in helping your child learn their spellings.

Into the Forest!

A new group of Year 3 pupils were enthusiastic to enter the woodland today. Many were excited and a few a little nervous but everyone finished the session with a smile on their faces. They took to the Forest School ethos of exploration straight away all keen to share their discoveries with their friends and adults alike. A range of mini beasts were found and teamwork skills began to be developed as the children negotiated moving large logs together. If your child attended, why not ask them about their Forest School name!

Year 3 Visit Wat Tyler Country Park

Year 3 turned into excited explorers this week, as they visited Wat Tyler Country Park! The children (and the teachers) learned how to use compasses, which they used during orienteering, to navigate around the park on a foot print frenzy! The children found and identified foot prints from foxes, black birds, mute swans and water voles among other creatures. It was great to see the children excited about the outdoors and nature! Also, the children took part in a series of team building activities where they had to use thinking skills to solve different problems. Well done for your excellent cooperation during these activities Year 3!
'My favourite part was when we were hunting for footprints! I liked being able to explore lots of different paths in the parks with the compass directions.'
Alex, Scotland Class
'The games were so fun. I loved being able to work with my friends! Can we go back?'
Bobby, Wales Class

Congratulations year 1 star writers!

The children in year 1 amazed us all with their wonderful writing talents.
Our topic is Superheros and all of the children had fantastic ideas about their favourite superheroes.

Last weeks star writers were:
Australia: Shay La-Rocque
New Zealand: Alexa Dormer
Palau: Brea Cassell

Here is just one example of their brilliant work.
Well done year 1!
