Weekly Newsletter - 24/02/23

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to school, we hope that you were able to enjoy some time over the half term with family and friends. The children have settled back into school brilliantly and have been wonderful Mead role models. We are really looking forward to seeing what the next half term brings. Please see the important dates below for our parent workshops and parents evenings that are coming up.

Possible Strike Action

You will be aware that the NEU (National Education Union) have called their members to participate in further strike action. Currently, strikes that affect Havering schools are planned for:

  • Thursday 2nd March
  • Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th March

We do not yet know the impact of the strike action and how it will affect the operations of our school. The ability to remain open or partially open will depend on the number of union members taking strike action. The decision to fully or partially open the school will be made by Monday and shared with all parents and carers.

Turkey and Syria Earthquake Appeal- Message from Pupil Parliament

We have chosen to donate to Unicef in aid of the Turkey/Syria earthquake appeal. We would like to raise money to help children and families affected by the disaster. Our aim is to make a mile of coins so please donate any spare coins you have. We will be collecting the coins until Friday 3rd March. Thank you! From Pupil Parliament.

RSHE Parent Workshop - Wednesday 22nd March at 9:15am or 2:30pm

This workshop is to discuss the teaching of Relationship, Sex and Health education (RSHE) which we will begin to teach next half term. RSHE is a compulsory part of the curriculum however there are some lessons that are not compulsory. This workshop will explain why we teach RSHE, what we teach and what your rights are as a parent. We welcome you to come and find out exactly what we will be teaching and to express any concerns you may have . You can also look at our RSHE policy on our school website which will help to answer some questions about what we teach in each year group.

Nut allergies Please note that we are a nut free school. Children who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock. We cannot have nuts in school in any form so please can we ask that you have no nut products in the lunch boxes or brought into the school as treats.
