Update - Friday 12th March 2021

Friday 12th March 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been lovely to see the children in school and with their friends again. Although we still have a number of restrictions in place in school, it is great to have the school community back.

Below is the key information and reminders that should be aware of.

● Masks must be worn by parents on the school site (unless medically exempt).

● Parents must continue to exercise social distancing in and around the school.

● It is a legal requirement that all children come to school (unless unwell, self-isolating from COVID-19 or clinically extremely vulnerable).

● School uniform must be worn. PE kits must be in school.

● Year group bubbles remain in place until further notice.

● School dinners are available. KS2 parents must ensure credit is on the Squid account.

● Breakfast Club is open as usual. Payments must be made in advance via Squid.

● School will remain closed after lunch on Friday (12-50 for KS1 and 1-00 for KS2). Google classroom work will be set for the children to complete at home. Please note that younger children cannot be collected by siblings in KS2.

● Homework Club on Friday afternoon is available for working parents. Please complete the Google Survey to secure a place.

● Children who have been lent Chromebooks should keep them at home to complete their homework and Friday afternoon Google Classroom learning.

●       Staggered start/finish times remain in place until further notice:

ARP  8-30 start 2-45 finish (12-50 finish on Friday)
YN   8-30 start 2-45 finish (12-50 finish on Friday)

Can I remind parents who drive to school to exercise caution in and around Amersham Road. Driving carefully and parking considerately is important to keep our children safe and to maintain good relationships with our neighbours.

Thank you for your support this week and enjoy the weekend.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office or email mail@mead.havering.sch.uk.

Take care and stay safe.

Lateral Flow testing

Monday 8th March 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Lateral Flow testing

NHS Test and Trace have announced that from this week, twice weekly testing using lateral flow tests will be extended to full households with primary, secondary and college age children and young people including childcare and support bubbles in order to identify asymptomatic cases and break the chains of transmission.

Children of primary school age (and below) without symptoms are not being asked to take a test. Testing is voluntary, but strongly recommended to all who are eligible.

Tests are fast, easy and free. There are different ways for a household, childcare or support bubble to collect their test to take at home, twice-weekly:

● Through your employer if they offer testing to employees

● At a local test site

● By collecting a home test from a test site

● By ordering a home test kit online

Get a test through your employer

As the scheme has been extended, your workplace may offer rapid lateral flow testing to you. Contact your employer for more details.

Take a test at a rapid lateral flow test site You can take a rapid lateral flow test at a local site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator. You may need to book an appointment.

Find your nearest rapid lateral flow test site.

Collect Test Kits

You can collect 2 packs of home test kits at a local collection point. Each pack contains 7 tests. Anyone 18 or over can collect. Most collection points are open from 1.30pm to 7pm. You can check online if the location is open or busy before you go. You do not need to make an appointment. Do not visit a collection point outside opening hours, as it may be used to test people with coronavirus symptoms outside these times.

Find your nearest home test kit collection point.

Order home test kits online

If you cannot get tested at your workplace, or are unable to go to a test site or collect test kits, you can order a home test kit online. Do not order online if you can get a test through other methods. This frees up home delivery for those who need it most.

Order rapid lateral flow home test kits

What twice-weekly testing involves

If you decide to engage with the testing programme, you will be asked to take a test twice a week (every 3 or 4 days apart) and report every result to NHS Test and Trace on the same day you take the test here: Report your test result online or by calling 119.

If anyone tests positive or gets coronavirus symptoms, they should tell the school, self-isolate immediately, get a PCR test to confirm the result and follow the stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus infection.

A negative result means the test did not find signs of coronavirus. But this does not guarantee you do not have coronavirus, so you should keep following the coronavirus advice.

Alongside the vaccine, washing hands, wearing face coverings, and maintaining social distancing, rapid testing plays a vital role in reducing transmission rates. Getting into the habit of regular testing as part of our everyday lives will help us all to play our part and do what we can to protect each other.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office or email mail@mead.havering.sch.uk.

Take care and stay safe.

Science week

Dear Parents/Carers,

To celebrate British Science Week, we are running a whole school science based learning challenge where the children can choose a science project to complete at home. This year’s theme is ‘Innovating for the future’. We want to encourage young people to celebrate the amazing diversity we see across the world. From biodiversity to cultural and societal diversity, from the diversity of knowledge to STEM careers and subjects. There are lots of ways to explore this theme - we’d love to hear some of your ideas too!.

1. Design and present your own science project for our Virtual Science Week Roadshow.

This year we are holding a Virtual Science Week Roadshow, where children can send in pictures or videos of their science projects they have made, created and tested at home to share with parents and other pupils in the school later in the week.
There are some great websites to get inspiration from including:

Of course you can be as creative as you like but any ideas linked to the theme ‘Innovating for the future’ would be fantastic!

Your project could involve any of the four STEM subjects, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

-You could create a model or prototype and include:
  • Information on your design including it’s purpose
  • How your design functions and how you have tested it
  • Reflection on your design including any challenges you faced and how you could improve it.
-You could design and set up your own science investigation. All great science investigations start with a question. For example ‘How do shadows change over the time of the day?’ Think about the science topics you have learned in class and are there any other experiments you would like to do?

Any entries for our Science Week Roadshow will be due by on Friday 12th March, and there are prizes available for pupils with interesting and creative ideas. Please upload your entries to your google classroom, or email them to your year group email. Try to be as innovative as possible and think outside the box! We look forward to seeing some fantastic entries this year- good luck!

Yours Sincerely,

Miss Hinchliffe & Miss Redgrave

Secondary School Places: September 2021

Monday 1st March 2021

Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

Secondary School Places: September 2021

Today, the secondary school places will be announced and you will be notified by email this evening which school your child has been offered.

You will only receive one offer today, which will be at whichever of the schools are able to allocate your child a place using the published admission criteria. If more than one of the schools is able to allocate your child a place, you will be offered whichever one of these is the highest preference on your application. If none of the schools you applied for is able to offer a place, you will be offered a place at the nearest Havering school to your home address where a vacancy exists.

The outcome email you receive will tell you how to accept the place you have been offered. It is strongly recommended that you do not reject the place offered unless you have a place arranged elsewhere. Your child can stay on the waiting list for any school that you listed as a higher preference than the school you have been offered. If a place becomes available later, you will be given the opportunity to accept that instead.

Additional details and information may be found at the Havering School Admissions website or by contacting the Schools Admissions Team via email schooladmissions@havering.gov.uk. Please be aware, they will be extremely busy over the next few days.

I sincerely hope you are all pleased with the offer you receive.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Denchfield
