Weekly Newsletter - 21/04/23

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the Summer Term! It has been lovely to see the children return in their Summer uniforms ready for a successful term ahead. We are busy planning lots of events throughout this term which we hope to share with you.

Eid Mubarak!

We were pleased to be joined by parents of pupils in KS2 this week to find out more about the Muslim Festival, Eid which marks the end of Ramadan. We would like to wish our Muslim community a Happy Eid and look forward to hearing more about the celebrations that take place over the weekend.

Industrial Action

As you are aware there are further Teacher strikes planned on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May. Staff do not need to decide if they are taking part until the day and we are not allowed to insist that staff inform us if they are participating, nor even inform us of which union they are part of. At this stage I am unable to confirm whether there will be a partial or full closure to pupils on either or both days and would suggest that childcare arrangements be made in advance. I will confirm the partial or full closure by Monday 24th April. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

ABACUS After School Club

ABACUS Afterschool club started this week. As the club are using the KS1 playground as part of their provision, the KS1 gate will now be closed each day at 3:30pm and there will be no access through the KS1 playground for pupils, parents/carers after this time. To register your interest in attending, please contact ABACUS directly on 07903 708764 (Between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm weekdays) or online http://www.abacusafterschoolclubs.com/.

Read, Read, Read

There can be few things as powerful as regularly reading to a young child. It has astonishing benefits for children: comfort and reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. Giving a child time and full attention when reading them a story tells them they matter. It builds self-esteem, vocabulary, feeds imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns.- National Literacy Trust

We would really like to encourage all children to be reading at home at least 3 times a week and would ask that parents write in their children's reading book each time they have read. If you need any support with this to possibly set up a routine, encourage a reluctant reader or seek some advice, please speak with your child’s teacher or come along to the Parent Partnership Meeting which has been rearranged for Wednesday 3rd May at 8:50am in the KS2 hall.

King Charles III Coronation

As part of the Coronation Celebrations we will be holding a Royal Crown Competition and Parade and would like the children to design and make their own crown at home to bring it into school on Friday 5th May. All children and staff will also be invited to wear red, white and blue for the day whilst participating in a range of learning activities to discover more about the Coronation and the Commonwealth.
