Nursery Newsletter-Spring 1 Week 2

 Term: Spring 1 Date: 09 .01.2018

Dear Parent/Carer,
The children have settled back into Nursery and have enjoyed their first week back.

This half term we are focusing on ‘Fairy tales’. This week we are working on the story of `The three little pigs` The children will be making the pig`s houses, making pigs out of paper plates and making pig biscuits.

Please remember this is your last week to apply for places for Reception. If you have had any problems applying speak to a member of staff this week. Attending the Nursery does not automatically mean you will have a Reception place and applying to the Havering website is very important.

These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:

Mathematics
The children helped to place numbered small logs across a ‘pond’ for the frog to hop to the princess. They will have opportunities to recognise, sort and order numbers when playing with the frogs and logs.

Physical
The children will have their weekly P.E lesson and plenty of opportunity to develop their gross motor skills in the outside area.

Literacy
The children will be able to practise their mark making in sparkly glitter. At this stage mark making is a physical activity and this allows them to develop elbow and wrist control.

Workshop
We will be making the three little pig`s houses out of sticks, straw and lego and duplo.

Communication and Language

Encouraging children to use simple sentences correctly.
Encouraging children to hold a conversation and respond to comments.

Personal and Social Development
Ensuring children are able to co-operate with routines and some boundaries.
Modelling the correct behaviours in play, ensuring children use resources well and begin to share with other children.
The children will use the puppets to act out the story of the 3 little pigs. This will allow the children to share resources and ideas with each other when engaging in play.

Messages
Please ensure your child has a coat in school everyday as we do use the outside area in all weather conditions.
