Cultural Week in New Zealand Class

For cultural week New Zealand Class have been learning all about their country.
We learnt about the Haka and performed a version of our own. Look at those scary faces!

Culture week in Brazil

During culture week, Brazil class looked at the work of the Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes. She is a collage artist and painter who uses very colourful materials to create pictures. She is influenced by the tropical flowers and plants near her home in Brazil, and also the carnivals and culture of Brazil. She uses these inspiring places and experiences, turning them into bright, clashing colours or simple shapes. Beatriz Milhazes uses shapes in different sizes and overlaps them to create images. Here are their designs.

One of the traditional Brazilian sweets is the Brigadeiro which are caramel chocolate truffles. They were named after the famous 1940's Brazilian Brigadier General Eduardo Gomes, who ran for president in 1945 and apparently also loved this particular chocolate treat.

The pupils had the opportunity to make them and then eat them. They enjoyed them so much that many asked for the recipe so that they can make them at home.

This week children in Brazil class were exploring Brazilian music and in particular the samba band. They have learnt about traditional instruments used to play samba,  they listened to samba rhythms and then had the opportunity to create their own.

Here is one group's samba rhythms.
