Funding Appeal: Are You Eligible for Free School Meals?

Deadline Wednesday 17th January 2018
Dear Parents,

Funding at both Mead & Broadford has been cut over the last 6 years.
We have lost over £200,000 in funding since 2011
In the next two years we stand to lose another £100,000.

This money helps us provide clubs, enrichment, facilities and staff to support your children.

How can you help?
If you are eligible for Free School Meals funding, we receive an extra £1,300 for your child.
This money is guaranteed - even if your circumstances improve - for 6 years = £7,800

Can Reception & KS1 pupils apply?
YES - confusingly you already get a free meal, everyone does in Early Years and KS1, but unless you apply the school won't get the funding.

Will this help me as a parent?
Absolutely! For parents of pupil premium pupils, we can

  • support you with the cost of school uniform
  • contribute towards the cost of school trips/residentials
  • contribute towards the specific needs of your child

Who is eligible?
Your child might be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
