Weekly Newsletter - 21/07/22

Friday 21st July 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is hard to believe that we are now at the end of another school year. We couldn’t be prouder of the children and all that they have achieved this year. We wish our Year 6 leavers all the best for the next step in their education journey and look forward to welcoming our new Reception children in September. Thank you to all parents and carers for your ongoing support throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 5th September. Have a wonderful Summer!

After 18 years of hard work and dedication to the children, families and staff at Mead, we say goodbye to Mrs Jolly today as she retires. We wish her a long and happy retirement! She will be missed by us all.

Year 6 ‘Fiver Challenge’

This week, the children in Year 6 formed mini companies which were started using a £5 loan per child from the school. They used their money to make and buy different goods which they sold at their after school event yesterday.

I am very pleased to share that after paying back their £5 loan, they raised a fantastic £336-24 which they chose to donate to Cancer Research. What a fantastic event and outstanding gesture!

Phased Uniform

Please remember, our Uniform Policy is a phased introduction. Whilst we expect that children wear the appropriate items of clothing (no leggings), it is not expected that children will wear black trousers, skirts and shorts until you need to buy new uniform.

Parent Hub

A huge thank you for your pre-loved uniform donations and to the volunteers for arranging the sale. Our Parent Hub volunteers have arranged for the uniform to be sold on Monday 1st August and Monday 8th August at Harold Hill library. Details will be shared on the School Facebook page and on the Mead Parents Facebook page with further details closer to the time.

Young Enterprise

Year 6 have been participating in the Young Enterprise scheme known as 'Fiver Challenge'. They had to work in a group to create a business, thinking about the product they would want to sell and then purchasing the stock. They also had to think about costings and advertising.

Yesterday after school, the pupils set up their stalls and started selling. It was a great success and after paying back their initial loan, they collectively raised £336.24. Thank you to everyone who supported them and a big congratulations  to Year 6!

They have decided to donate the money to a Cancer Research charity.

Year 6 Visit to Kidzania

Last Thursday, year 6 visited Kidzania in Westfield, White City. The children had a great time, exploring the imaginary world and trying out new careers.

University of Mead - Clever Cooker-less Cooking

Over the last six weeks, children from years 5&6 have been taking part in ‘University of Mead.’ Today was the graduation and here are the children that graduated from ‘Clever Cooker-less Cooking.’ Over the weeks, the children have made various dishes such as; fruit skewers, salads, dips for tortillas and cheesecake to name a few. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the course and have learnt new skills.

Scrumdiddlyumptious

The year one children have had a fantastic week.  After designing their own cupcakes they became bakers, making delicious chocolate and vanilla cupcakes.  They then decorated their cakes according to their designs and ate them at a cupcake picnic outside in the sunshine.  As you can see, they thoroughly enjoyed eating their amazing creations.  Well done year one!

Year 2 Graduate!

Year 2 all graduated from their chosen  Mead University courses today.

We will send their individual photos home next week.

There are some amazing sporting, cooking and art superstars within our Year 2. They have had such fun over the past five weeks pursuing their chosen courses.
