Australia Forest School

It was a bit chilly at forest school today and it definitely felt like winter but we were also surprised to see the oak trees still holding onto their leaves.

We had great fun using the punches to make shapes in the leaves. There were lots of pine cones made into shiny Christmas tree decorations too.

We also enjoyed testing our balance on the slackline.

Well done Australia!

Year 2 Explore and Draw

In year 2 art, we have been developing our observational drawing, experimental mark making, and thinking  about how we can use composition to create artwork.

The exercises and projects encouraged the children to begin to develop hand-eye coordination through slow and paced looking.

We have tried lots of fun drawing activities such as: blind drawings, feely drawings, continuous line drawings, and backwards forwards drawings.

We used a variety of drawing materials including: pencil, biro pen, handwriting pen, paint, chalk and charcoal.

We drew the same set of objects from different viewpoints.

We even used a story for inspiration to fire our imagination.

CAMHS Dedicated to dads evening 6th of December 6-7pm

CAMHS Havering is hosting a  Dedicated Dads event at Hornchurch Fire Station (RM11 1SH) on Wednesday 6th December, 6-7pm. This would be a great opportunity for Dads speak to HEST and CAMHS about their children’s emotional health and wellbeing. It would also be a good place to socialise with fellow Dads.

Please find attached the leaflet for more information.  If any Dads are interested in attending, please speak with Miss Calitz or Mrs Kinchella or e-mail CAMHS (see information below)

Year 1 Firework Night Poem

In English we are learning all about a poem called ‘On Firework Night’ by Andrew Collett. We have created signs to perform with the poem and have learned all about the different types of fireworks. Today we created firework art to help us describe the different fireworks using adjectives.

Year 1 are scientists!

Year 1 have been learning all about materials this half term and have carried out some investigations!

First we learned all about solids and liquids. We learned how a solid can melt to become a liquid, and a a liquid can be frozen to become solid. We observed what happened to an ice cube in our hands and how we can make the ice melt faster.

This week we learned about sinking and floating. We picked objects in the class and predicted if they would sink or float. Then we tested the objects to see if our predictions were correct!

Well done Year 1, you have been fantastic scientists!
