Read ,Write inc -Helping your Reception child

Read Write Inc is now a firmly embedded part of our children`s school day. The programme follows a very systematic format which the children enjoy as they respond well to the structure ,repetition and look forward to the new sound .At the heart of  Read Write Inc. (RWI)Phonics is the systematic teaching of all the common sounds in the English language (RWI calls these the Speed Sounds). Children are taught to recognise the sounds and to put them together (‘sound blend’ them) into words for reading. The children are taught one way of representing the 44 main sounds of English first, and then go on to learn the alternative spellings later on. When teaching the letter sounds, it is important to remember to keep them very ‘pure’ and distinct, to help with sound-blending later on. For example m should be said-m rather than mer .
Once children know the first set of Speed Sounds, they are ready to read the first Storybooks. We are currently working on speed sounds set 1 and have just covered l.

This record sheet can enable you to keep track of your child’s progress and so you can reinforce the school learning and feel aware of which ones your child is confident with and support them with those that maybe they are still having trouble with.
Thank you for your support.
