In our DT lessons this half term the children in year 3 have been very busy. Firstly, they learnt all about nutrition and the different food groups. They then designed their own sandwich and wrote instructions for making them. After that they made their delicious and nutritious creations before enjoying them at our class tea parties. Finally they evaluated their sandwiches, coming up with some fantastic ideas on how they could make them even better. Well done year three!

Year One celebrate the Platinum Jubilee
Year One have had great fun preparing for and celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. They created bunting to decorate the school, wrote invitations and made Union flags to wave at the party, as well as making their own jewelled crowns to wear. The children also planned and wrote their own version of the story The Queen's Hat by Steve Antony. In their stories the Queen visited Mead and when her hat blew away the children chased it around the school before finding it on either Ms Holmes', Mrs Pidgeon's or Fred's head!!! At the party the children gave a great rendition of Reach by S Club Seven and enjoyed watching all of the other year groups perform their songs. The sunny afternoon celebrations ended with cake - a perfect day!

Scrumdiddlyumtious!
The year one children had a wonderful time at their scrumdiddlyumtious cupcake picnic yesterday. The picnic was the culmination of weeks of hard work. The children started by writing a letter to Mr Denchfield asking for the money to buy ingredients for the cakes. They wrote invitations to each other, remembering to use capital letters for proper nouns. They then designed their cakes, deciding on the flavour of the sponge and frosting and what they were going to decorate them with. The children wrote lists to take to 'Little Lidl' where they used different coins to pay for the ingredients. They also made some colourful bunting to adorn the trees in our outside area. Finally, this week, the children became chefs and weighed the ingredients before baking their delicious cakes and decorating them, followed by their favourite part - eating them!

Year 3 - Making Mini Greenhouses
The children explored various features of a greenhouse and before making them, discussed appropriate structures, shape and suitable materials they would need for them to function as an actual working greenhouse. They used their understanding of 2-D and 3 -D shapes and their skills to join, cut and finish using a range of materials they had to choose from. The children then generated realistic ideas and designs collaboratively through lots of discussion.
They then used appropriate tools to assemble their greenhouses. The children worked really well with their partner and had lots of fun creating them. We are extremely proud of each child.
Well done Year 3 - They look great!
