Barbados class celebrate

After filling up their marble jar before half term, the children in Barbados class voted to go into the Year 1 outside area for their treat. This afternoon they got to have some fun whilst the sun was shining and enjoyed playing on the different equipment the year 1 area had to offer. Keep up the great work Barbados class!

And they are off.....

The children in Barbados class have been waiting very patiently for our butterflies to take their very first flight. We have observed them closely over the past few weeks from tiny caterpillars, to seeing them in their chrysalis state to being fully formed butterflies. There were a few sad children when they were released with lots saying 'I will miss them' but it was lovely to witness them take off and explore the world around them ready to begin their lifecycle again. Bye bye butterflies....

Barbados Forest School

This week Barbados enjoyed going for a walk through the field before entering Forest School. We were looking for signs of spring and the children did a great job of spotting even the smallest of buds on the tree branches.

With all the rain that has fallen, the ground was super soggy and was the perfect opportunity for us all to enjoy squelching as we walked in our wellie boots!

As we entered Forest School we spotted all of the daffodil bud clusters which was the perfect opportunity to begin our discussions of our nature study this week - Spring Flowers.

We look forward to visiting the forest again soon to see the daffodils and bluebells in full bloom.

Reception Forest School - Camp Fire Experience

Today all reception children took part in a wonderful camp fire experience!

They visited the forest and sat very safely and patiently around the fire circle.

We discussed the fire and what safety measures we had in place and how we were all going to keep ourselves and each other safe.

All the children learnt how to adopt the respect position when kneeling at the fire to keep safe and they did a great job of this.

They toasted their own marshmallows until they were bubbly and sticky and then they squeezed them between two biscuits to make yummy gooey smores!

The smiles on their faces said it all!

A great time was had by everyone at forest school this afternoon.

Barbados Forest School

Barbados enjoyed their trips to the forest this half term.

Last week many of them enjoyed climbing the tree as it was a nice dry day and the mud kitchen was ever as popular to concoct some forest delights!

The bird feeders that had been made by the other reception classes had been enjoyed by the birds so Barbados class replenished the bare branches with more seeds for the birds to enjoy.

We also noticed some beginnings of spring and were careful not to trample on the shoots we could see coming up through the ground. We placed some large sticks around to protect the new bluebells beginning to grow.

Great conservation of the forest Barbados.

Reception Forest School

This week Barbados and Jamaica class had their first experiences of visiting forest school.

They did lots of geat noticing and listening in order to learn the boundaries of forest school and how to keep themselves and each other safe out there.

We played some games to warm up, Ninja stick was a firm favourite! Then they were all eager to explore the forest and the activities available.

Tree climbing was very popular for Barbados class with some children demonstrating great perseverance!

The mud kitchen was very busy with lots of wonderful creations being mixed and many children enjoyed making their very own leaf characters to take home.

We finished with a lovely story and a chance to reflect on our time in the forest. From the smiles on their faces a good time was had by all.
