Weekly Newsletter - 09/06/23

Friday 9th June 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back for our last half term of 22-23. I hope you had a lovely, restful half term. As always this term is a busy time with lots still to learn and experiences to be had.

Hot Weather

We are due to experience some high temperatures next week. Please see the guidance below.

  • Children should not be kept off school because of the warm weather unless they are unwell
  • Suncream to be applied before school - if cream is brought in it must be kept in their bags, applied by themselves and not shared with anyone else.
  • Children to be encouraged to wear hats (appropriate designs!)
  • Children bring a drink bottle to school - they will have access to water throughout the day.
  • Lessons will be adapted where possible to take into account the heat.
  • Option to stay in the hall at lunch.
  • Sun glasses are only permitted if there is a medical reason.

Class photos

We will be adding a small class photo to each individual End of Year Report. If you wish for your child not to be included in this photo, please inform your child’s class teacher by today. Thank you.

Free School Meals

You may have heard that the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced an historic £130m emergency scheme to help families with the spiralling cost of living by ensuring that every primary school child in London receives free school meals in the next academic year. The Mayor is stepping in with the one-off proposal to ensure that healthy free school meals are universally available to all primary school pupils for one year from September due to the extreme pressures currently facing households across the capital.

We are pleased to be able to offer a free school meal to all pupils in school from September and it is important that due to the size of the school and some of the operational challenges that this will bring, we will need to trial this before the start of the next academic year. Havering Catering Service are inviting all pupils to receive a Free School Meal on Friday 30th June. This will allow the Catering team to be more prepared in September and to also get an idea of the number of children who will be having a Free School Meal. Please encourage your child/ren to take part in the trail day. The Menu for the day will include Fish Fingers, Cheesy Tomato pasta and Hot Cheesy wraps.

IMPORTANT – REGISTER TO VIEW SCHOOL PHOTOS

Carmel Jane Photography will be visiting our school on 14th of June 2023, to take the Class Group Photos.

All Parents are requested to pre-register before the photography date above to enable access to your child’s photographs. Pre-registration is required for every photo shoot. Registration only takes a minute. Please visit www.carmeljaneshop.co.uk and enter the following code: JRJ2D3T. You will then be asked to pre-register with your child's full school register name. Once registered, as soon as the photos are available you will receive an automatic email notification to inform you that your child's photos are now ready to be viewed and can be purchased. Don't miss out pre-register today!

The start of the school day

We have a large number of children who are attending school earlier and earlier in the mornings and are being left unattended. The school gates are open to allow access to children who attend the breakfast club. All children can come into school from 8:30am. Until this time, there are no adults supervising outside and therefore any children who are left unattended in the playground remain the responsibility of their parents and carers until 8:30am.

Reading Volunteers

We would like to introduce Reading Volunteers for the next school year. We are looking for adults who would be able to give their time once or twice a week to listen to readers. All volunteers would be asked to complete a DBS check and undergo some training that would be provided by the school. If this is something that you would like to be involved in, please register your interest here.

Parent View- Results

Thank you to those who have completed our parent view questionnaire. After reviewing the results we can see that we parents would like to know more about what their children are learning and be more informed. As well as adding more information to our school website and blog, we are also planning opportunities for parents and carers to come into school more regularly to ‘Stay and Learn’ sessions. This has already been a great success in EYFS, Reception, Year 1 and 2 and we have more sessions planned for next year which will include KS2.

We would also like to ask parents to complete a survey regarding communication. We have many lines of communication and would like your feedback as we start to improve and streamline. To take part in this, please complete this form using the link below. https://forms.gle/t8V8DFu1FwzgKhyCA
