Jamaica Class celebrate Australia Day

On Thursday the 26th of January Jamaica class helped Miss McDonald celebrate Australia Day. We listened to Australian music like “Waltzing Matilda” performed by André Rieu and “I am Australian” by the Seekers, whilst looking at images of Australia. We also took a Google Earth trip from Mead Primary School around the world to visit Miss McDonald's home city of Perth Western Australia to look at some of the places she visits on Australia Day like Cottesloe Beach.

We discussed Australia Day traditions such as barbecues, visiting the beach, having picnics and meeting up with family and friends. The children also made Happy Australia Day cards for family members, friends and teachers. Finally, before we went home we learnt some of the song “Give me a Home Among the Gum Trees” by John Williamson and the actions which go alongside the chorus.

Miss McDonald would just like to say Thank You to all the children in Jamaica for making her first Australia Day away from friends and family so special.
