Thank you for our goats

Our donation from WE Create Change was matched to the Oloirien community in Kenya. 

The community of Oloirien is located in Narok South District, in the Rift Valley of Kenya. The population is approximately 3,000 people, comprised of Maasai, Kiisi and Tugen ethnic groups coexisting peacefully. In the last 30 years, the community has had a history of drought and famine, most recently suffering from both in 2007 and 2011. Community members lack the capacity to cope with these unexpected weather changes and factors threatening their livelihoods. About 22% of primary school aged children are not attending school. 

Our goats will help the community to raise essential funds to provide food, water and education for the children.

Tomorrow is our End of year party.
Children may come into school in their own clothes ready for a fun session with food ,games and
face painting
Children are to attend their normal sessions and normal times apply.
We look forward to a really fun day.
 

Let the reading commence.....

A BIG thank you to all of those parents who were able to make our stay and read yesterday morning. There was lots of children fully engrossed in the stories being told, taking their imaginations to a world of possibilities. "I brought in my book of poems. They are funny" said Zachary.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support this year and we look forward to seeing everyone taking part in the summer reading challenge.

Havering 6th Form College

Our vision is that no child's future should be determined by their background. We believe it is vital that pupils see a purpose in their education and have a clear understanding of how success at school will help to unlock doors for them in the future.

A significant part of this is introducing the pupils to Higher Education experiences as soon as possible, so that they can be excited by what lies ahead.

In partnership with Havering 6th Form College we were delighted to have the chance for some of our Y5 & Y6 pupils to visit the college and try some of the courses that they have on offer. Pupils had the opportunity to try photography, pottery, archaeology, graphic design and a range of other activities.

This has been such an exciting day. The pupils were so engaged and really rose to the challenge posed by the college's teachers. To hear the language that Lorraine used to describe how she felt about the artwork was incredible. The teacher said that it was at a GCSE level!

By making a clear link between career paths and education opportunities we hope that our pupils will stay the course and go onto get the qualifications we know they are capable of. At the end of the visit the pupils seemed to be inspired!

83% said that would now consider staying in education longer if they could get the career they wanted
100% said that they wouldn't be daunted by attending a college environment
95% said that would wish to study one of the activities in more detail

Attention for year 6 parents

Tomorrow year six will be going to Central Park, leaving at 9:15am and returning to school at 12:15pm. Whilst we are there, the children will have the opportunity of going into the skate-park and the football courts. If there is any reason why your child may not be allowed to go, could you please let the Year six team know.

Veggie Run Winners

Two very lucky Mead children attended the Town Hall with Mrs Smith to collect the bicycles they'd won in the Veggie Run competition organised by Havering Catering Services. Ramone and Maisie-Rose had collected badges during this half term and that qualified them for the draw-Luckily it was their names that were drawn.
Maisie-Rose who hasn't got a bike said 'My brothers are going to be so jealous, luckily this bike is too big for them, so they won't be able to ride it'.
Ramone added 'My bike's been broken for a while-We won't need to fix it now I have a brand new one'. Watch out for their pictures in the Romford Recorder

Year 4 End of Year Party

Year Four will be having their end of year party on Thursday 19th July.  Could you please ensure that your child brings in a drink for themselves and a small amount of food to share for the party.


The children are not required to wear/bring party clothes.
