Dear Parent, Carers
We hope you have had a lovely weekend and here we are back for another busy week..
Last week we had a busy week working on activities based around the Stick man story. The children loved looking in the woods for sticks and creating their own Stick man. This week we will be writing our letters to Father Christmas.Next week we will take the children for a walk to the post office to post their letters. If you have any spare catalogues at home we would really appreciate them.We have started practising our Christmas songs so be prepared for some practising at home !!
Please note we are asking parents not to bring buggies into the corridors as they become overcrowded at peak times and pose a health and safety risk. Please be assured a member of staff will be on hand to provide assistance in looking after buggies and little ones in the morning.
Thank you to everybody who has left their buggies this week.

We are very sorry that there will be some disruption to pick up arrangements while the builders work on the extension to the Nursery. At the beginning and end of the school day the only access will be via gate 1 the main school entrance.Adults collecting Nursery children from the morning session and adults bringing the Nursery children to the afternoon session  will enter via the gate 2 access road .
Thank you for your patience at this time.

If you haven`t yet sent your family photos in please send them in as soon as possible. We look forward to sharing these photos during circle time.

Reception Newsletter Autumn 2 Week 5

                                                                                                         Autumn 2 25.11.18

Dear Parent, Carers

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas this week, as we will be looking at the story 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'. The children will be writing their letters to Father Christmas and we will be doing lots of Christmas themed crafts. We have begun practising for our Christmas play and the children have been busy learning all of our wonderful songs. We will be sending home the song words as I know lots of children have been eager to sing them to their parents. Please also check your child's class notice board this week for information regarding what they need to wear for the Christmas play. You can then start sending your child's black clothes in a named plastic bag as soon as possible and no later than Friday 7th December.

In the mornings the children need to walk through the main gate and enter through the Reception area doors. If you arrive after the gate has closed, you will need to enter the main office where you will be recorded as late. At 3.00pm Gate 1 will be open for parents and the children will be released through the Reception area doors. Please do not crowd around the doors at the end of the day, it is causing delays in ensuring your child is handed over to you safely. We thank you again for your understanding and cooperation in leaving pushchairs at the door.

We will continue with our phonics programme, teaching our set 1 sounds x, ng, nk. At the end of the week the children will bring some practise formation sheets. Please try and make some time to help your child with this formation. Learning to write is a tricky skill but an important one.

This week in maths we will be looking at making a total by combining two amounts together.
Any extra input from home would be appreciated

Your child will continue to bring home a reading book (which is changed weekly) and a set of sight words. The expectation is your child reads at least 3 times or more each week. As we are promoting a love of reading we encourage your child to read a range of books and is not limited to the one we send home with them. Please also remember to make a note of the title of the book your child has read to help them achieve their reading awards.

Request

If your child has any comics at home that they have finished with we would be grateful for them in school. Children enjoy sharing these and having a variety of reading material helps their development.

One of our children has lost their coat. We have looked everywhere at school. Please can you check whether your child has accidently taken it at home. Thank you for your help with this.

As part of our learning on 'Celebrations', we will be taking some time to discuss what we celebrate at home (birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Diwali etc). We are therefore asking for any photos of your child celebrating with their families to be sent in so they can be shared during our circle time. If these could be sent in a named envelope by next week it would be much appreciated and we will return to you as soon as possible.

Learning Challenge

Each half term we will be setting our pupils a challenge related to their learning. We believe that it is important for us to provide guidance for parents on how their children’s learning can be extended at home.

The learning challenge will include either a nursery rhyme, famous person, illustration or a piece of music. Please talk to your child about the challenge and help them to engage in their learning. The children can choose how they present their learning challenge outcomes to their teacher or class.

Poem/Song to learn: Five Little Men in a flying saucer
Person: Mr Maker
Composer/Piece of music: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons
Five little Men in a flying saucer.
Flew around the world one day,
They looked left and right,
But they didn’t like the sight,
So one man flew away,
Zoom!

Nursery Rhyme
Piece of music
Person
.       1.  Learn it off by heart.
     2.    Draw a picture to illustrate the rhyme.
3.    Find out about stars.
  1. Listen to the piece of music.
  2. Create some movements to the music
  3. Draw an illustration to represent their feelings.
       1. Draw a portrait of the person.
     2.  Find out facts about the person.
3. Watch the person in action.

On Wednesdays we have our weekly P.E session. Please ensure your child’s P.E kit is returned to school and is clearly labelled. Children are starting to change for their PE sessions, as you can imagine this is currently taking quite a while so all you can do to help your child be independent in dressing is greatly appreciated.

We will be using the new Havering school menu which the children bought home before half term. We are on Week 2 of this menu. Monday’s choices are:
Hot dog with wedges
Creamy cheese pasta pot
Veggie hot dog with wedges

Messages –
  • PLEASE NAME all items of clothing. This will help when returning lost items, particularly jumpers and cardigans with the right child. We have accumulated a number of clothes already. Please check your child’s class if they are missing something.
  • Our PE days are Wednesday. Please ensure your child has a named PE kit in school. If they wear earrings they need to be removed on this day.
  • Thank you to all those parents who have sent in a named set of spare clothes. If you haven’t yet could you please ensure your child has a named set of spare clothes and underwear on their peg as soon as possible. Please note this does not need to be school uniform.
  • Children can also bring in a pair of named wellies to leave in school. This would be great for use in the mud kitchen and on rainy days.
  • If your child suffers with asthma please ensure their pump is in school and you have completed the relevant paperwork at the main office.
  • Please actively encourage your child to put away their book bag and hang up their coat in the morning. It would also be really helpful if you could discuss the menu choices with your child the previous night to help them independently find their cupcake and make their lunch choice.

Reception Star Writer

Well done to this weeks star writers. They produced some wonderful independent work creating an alien profile following our story 'Aliens love underpants'. They all used their sounds to create their captions and wrote some lovely adjectives to describe their aliens.

Barbados - Elda
Jamaica - Keeley
St Lucia - Mickey-Ray

Well done to you all!

Year 4 Star Writer

This weeks Star Writer in Greece Class is Lily. In our class SPaG lesson we were looking at homophones. Lily wrote very creative and humorous sentences that included both homophones from the lessons focus. Well done!

Germany's star writer this week is Kristupas. In literacy this week, we have been working on free verse poems. Kristupas has successfully shown how he can use poetic devices such as alliteration in his free verse poems.
