Weekly Newsletter- 16/07/2021 - Important Information

Dear Parents and Carers,

Apologies for the rather long newsletter but there is lots of important information that you should be aware of.

COVID tests
This week, a number of children and parents have taken COVID tests as they were unwell and had symptoms that may have been COVID related. Thank you to those parents for following the guidance and keeping us updated. We really appreciate your support in keeping our school community safe.

Summer works
  • During the summer holiday, we are undertaking a significant amount of building work in the school. Below is a brief summary of the main works:
  • The new Y6 block will be finished and include new teaching walls, lockers for the children and new desks and chairs. The new block also has children's toilets and a lift to support those who are unable to use the stairs.
  • All 6 KS2 upstairs classrooms and the intervention room are being renovated. Four of the classrooms are being extended and every classroom is having a new teaching wall. The floors are being replaced and most are having new sinks fitted. Classrooms will also be redecorated.
  • An outside walkway will be started outside the upstairs KS2 classrooms. It’s primary use is as a fire escape but it is big enough for the teachers and children to use as an outside area.
  • We are redecorating the YR and Y1 corridor and fitting a new floor.
  • The KS1 playground is being extended into part of the old farm.

Work may start on replacing four roofs in the KS2 building. This work will continue into the new term but should not directly affect the classrooms when we return in September.

Meet the Teacher - Monday 19th July
After lunch, the children will be told who their teacher and support staff will be for next year and which classroom they will be in. We have arranged for new staff to be in school for this afternoon so the children can spend time with their new teacher in their new classroom. For the children in Egypt and Miss Gibson’s new class, this will not be possible as this is the final day of their isolation so we have arranged for them to have their meet the teacher on Tuesday 20th July. I will write to you on Monday with the staff and class information for next year.

Breakfast Club
A letter will be coming out today from our new Breakfast Club providers, ABACUS who will be starting with us in September. Application forms will be available via our current breakfast club and the school office.

YN - Y5 and ARP Class Parties - Wednesday 21st July (pm)
To celebrate the end of the school year, we will be holding class parties on this afternoon. This will be a non-uniform day and the children may wear age appropriate summer clothes for this day. This must include sensible footwear and no makeup, jewelry etc.

We would also be grateful for donations for your child’s class party which could include any from the following:

Crisps                       Iced Gems                         Biscuits                                   Small Cakes

Mini sausages                             Chicken Nuggets          Sausage Rolls              Wraps Breadsticks

We would request that contributions do not contain nuts and are brought in the day before/the day of the party. The school will provide water and fruit cordial throughout the afternoon as well as paper plates and disposable cups.

If your child has a specific allergy or dietary requirement, you may provide your child with a specific plate of food for the party. This should be clearly labelled and brought to school on the day of the party.

Y6 will be having a separate party to mark the end of their time at Mead. Mrs Keen has written to Y6 parents with details of their leaving arrangements.

Summer School Holiday Meal Scheme
The government has further extended the COVID Local Support Grant. The School Holiday Meal Scheme will provide £90 (£15 per week) per child to cover the 6 week summer break to families who are eligible and apply. This is issued via a bank transfer only.

If you received money via the scheme previously, you do not need to reapply to receive money for the summer school holidays. The money will be paid into your nominated bank account automatically by Monday 26th July.

If you wish to check your eligibility, use the School Holiday Meal link. The scheme will open to receive applications from 9:00 on Monday 19th July and closes at 5:00 on Friday 23rd July.

Pupil Premium Funding
Pupil Premium is a government scheme designed to support children from lower income families in order to provide them with the best possible start to their education.

Benefits: Pupils who are eligible are able to receive free school lunches (worth over £400 per year) and may receive financial assistance from the school for school uniform, school trips and school clubs.

The school currently receives additional funding for every eligible child whose parents successfully register. All information concerning Pupil Premium children is treated completely confidentially and does not affect any other benefits currently being claimed. To check your eligibility or to apply, please use the Pupil Premium link.

Y3 parents in September
Please remember, school lunches must be paid for via Squid. The government funding of free school lunches finishes when children leave Y2. However, Pupil Premium children will continue to receive free meals (see above for more information).

Sports Morning/Afternoons
I am pleased to say that the recent good weather has allowed us to run almost every sports morning/afternoons. Hopefully, the warm weather will continue next week so Mr Robinson and Mr Stanbridge can work with every year group.
